First Day!

Allison Peters

Well the day has finally come, we have made it to Costa Rica, thankfully all of us, and all of our luggage made it as well. I was pretty scared thid morning as I rode with my mother to the airport, but once I arrived and saw everyone else, it was okay.
I thought the plane rides would be a lot worse than they were, actually I slept most of the time. I was hoping I Could film the take off and Lansing, but we were not allowed any Electronic devices to be in use at the time.
The rest of the day was kind of a whirlwind. I was taken back by what I saw in San Jose, it´s nothing like I thought it would be. There´s barbed wire on pretty much every building, along with gates in front of the Doors, or even surrounding the entire house. I also though that San Jose would have skyscrapers and clean streets, but it seems to be quite the opposite. The Hilton Hotel was probably the largest building I saw so far, and the streets are covered with litter and cracked sidewalks. I was also taken back by the three people I just saw lying on the ground, as everyone passed them by like it was usual. I know I have been writing about the negative things, but there were positives as well. There are little Parks scattered throughout the city, and I saw some parrots in the trees. Also, we were kind of at the town center, and everyone seemed to geta long and just spend time together which is something you never see in Pittsburgh. I think it was just high expectations that were built in Latin American Class about how peaceful and brilliant a country Costa Rica is was let down by reality. Costa Rica still is a beautiful and peaceful country, but of course it has its struggles. There was also a loto political graffiti which I thought was neat.
I´m getting a little stressed about my graduation Project, but I´m trying to just have a good time, and not to worry. I also miss my family, but I know that they´re thinking of me just as much as I am thinking of them. I´m really excited to meet the sister school tomorrow!

  1. Allison,

I don't want to keep reading about your stressing over your project - you're doing fantastic work!!! Enjoy your time there and learn/observe as much as you can - capture as much as you can!

  2. I second Mrs. Savido. You worked very hard to prepare. Now take it all in and stay open to whatever happens.
